What exactly are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are a semi-permanent synthetic mink or silk fibers that lasts between 3 to 5 weeks and with monthly refill touch-ups, could last indefinitely.  SpaLashes only uses Premium Silk and Prime Mink lashes. Extensions add length and thickness to your own natural lashes and come in a variety of colors, curvatures and lengths as well as various thicknesses.

The extensions are individually applied to each one of your natural lashes with a surgical grade adhesive that will not harm the eyelids or natural lashes.  The lash extensions are never applied directly to the eyelids.  They are weightless, have a natural look and feel, are water-resistant and there is no need for mascara.

How long will the eyelash extensions last and will they damage my own natural lashes?

Your natural lashes grow in cycles every 45 to 90 days and at the end of this cycle, (what I call a growth spurt), your own eyelashes will naturally shed taking with it the individual eyelash extension that was applied.  Your eyelashes will reach this growth spurt at different stages of the lash’s life cycle and therefore it is necessary and recommended that you come in for a refill at 3 weeks to maintain fullness of your lashes.

Will I be able to use contact lenses with eyelash extensions?

Yes, however, I do not recommend that you have this procedure done with contact lenses in your eyes.  You will be asked to remove them before the procedure and will be able to put them back in right after your procedure.

Are there any side effects or irritation in getting eyelash extensions?

It is extremely important to note that if you are unable to have any type of acrylic nails applied to your natural nails or you are allergic to latex, you may have an allergic reaction to the adhesive that is utilized when applying eyelash extensions and it is strongly advised that you not have this procedure done.

I use surgical grade adhesives that have little or no fumes that may or may not irritate your eyes.  Since the extensions are applied directly to the eyelash itself,  it is not likely that you should have any skin irritations.  If irritation does occur, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your situation.

How long does this procedure take?

The initial procedure will take about 2 hours from the time you arrive, until the time you walk out the door. For refills, provided that you take care of your lashes, about 45 minutes to an hour.  For a refill appointment, I usually schedule out a 90 minute block of time as this process should not be rushed and I cannot determine ahead of time how one is taking care of their lashes.  If more time is needed, rest assured I will take the time to make sure your lashes are filled to their fullest potential.

What should I expect to take place during this procedure?

When coming in for your appointment, please come with a freshly washed face and no make-up.  It is imperative that all eye make-up, especially mascara, be thoroughly removed before applying the extensions to your lashes.  This will allow me to optimize your time in the application of your lashes.  If you arrive with make-up on, please know that it will take additional time for me to remove your make up with will take time away from me being able to apply lashes. As mentioned earlier, please be prepared to remove your contact lenses during this procedure.

The application of eyelash extensions in my spa room is non-invasive and very relaxing.  Make no mistake that you will find yourself in a most relaxing state of mind as you will be asked to lay down during your procedure, get tucked in cozy and lulled away by melodies that will take you to an island of yours and yours alone.

First, you will be asked to fill out a general Waiver & Release Form (if you have not done so already) during your initial consultation and at that time you will also have a chance to ask any questions or take a look at all the different lashes and tools that I utilize.

I usually like to take a before and after photo of your eyes so that you can see the difference the eyelash extensions make on you.  Then you be asked to lay down on my massage table and I will then apply a gel pad to your lower eyelash.  The reason for this is to separate your lower lash from your upper lash as your eyes will remain closed throughout the procedure. I will then apply the extensions individually one by one to your natural lash.

Many of my clients actually fall asleep during this procedure.  After all, how long can you stay awake when your eyes are closed during this procedure?  When you awake, you will not only feel refreshed, but will look amazingly younger and more vibrant than when you first stepped into my room.  Some say 10 years younger!

What is involved in taking care of eyelash extensions?

It is highly recommended that you read and follow the directions of your maintenance package that will be given to you at your initial appointment.  Some of the guidelines I highlight to exercise are as follows:

  • No getting your lashes wet for the first 24-48 hours after every appointment.
  • Brush your eyelashes with a mascara wand like the ones provided to you in your maintenance package.
  • Try not to touch your lashes excessively as the natural oils in your fingers will break down the adhesive.
  • Do not use oil based make-up, mascara or eye make-up remover.
  • No sauna, steam, exercising, swimming or tanning of any kind for the first 24-48 hours after every appointment.
  • Use of a manual eyelash curler will break your natural lash as well as the extension.

I also offer products for eyelashes that will help to keep them healthy and growing strong such as LashOut  as well as other supplies and products that are compatible to the extensions to help you maintain your lashes so that they look their optimal best at all times.

I hope that the above information was of help to you in deciding whether or not this procedure is right for you.
